within the Borough. Certified copies of these records can be obtained through
the Registrar's office for a fee of $10.00 each. Call 490-5100 or e-mail

MARRIAGE LICENSES
are obtained through the Registrar's office.
-
WHO
APPLIES When applying for your marriage license the
bride, groom and one witness must all be present. The exception to
this rule is if either the bride or groom is in the hospital or military.
The witness must know both the bride and the groom.
-
WHERE
TO APPLY The marriage application must be filed
in the Municipality in which either the bride or groom resides at the time of
application and the license may be used in any municipality in the State of
New Jersey. In the event that neither the bride nor
groom lives in New Jersey, then the marriage application is then
filed in the exact municipality in which the wedding is to take place and is
valid only in that municipality.
-
AGE
RESTRICTIONS In order to apply for a marriage license in
this State without parental or judicial consent, the bride and groom must be
at least 18 years of age at the time of the
application. Anyone
aged 17 or 16 must receive consent of both parents before a marriage license
can be issued. Anyone 15 and younger must receive a judicial consent.
In these cases, it is advised that one of the consenting parents be the
witness on the application.
-
DOCUMENTS
TO BRING WITH YOU When you come into the office to apply,
be prepared to present your birth certificate (passports are not accepted
in place of birth certificates), Social Security card, driver’s
license or other ID showing proof of residence,
and if you have been married before, your final divorce
decree or spouse’s death certificate. All documents must be the
original, with raised seals (no photocopies). If the documents are
not in English, they must be translated (at the applicant’s
expense) and notarized. Note:
The notary and the translator cannot be one and the same.
- WHEN
TO APPLY; FEE In the State of New Jersey, there is a 72-hour
waiting period from the time you apply for your license to when you
can pick it up. This includes weekends and holidays. Once issued, the
license will be valid for only thirty days. The
fee for a marriage license is $28.00. This does not include any
certified copies you may need after marriage. Certified copies can be
obtained from the municipality in which the marriage occurs for an
additional fee.
