Our Public Works department will pick up grass clippings each Monday between April 15 and October 15 BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
The clippings must be contained in special biodegradable compost bags to be sold by the Borough. No grass will be collected that is not contained in biodegradable compost bags purchased from the Borough. ONLY grass clippings are to be disposed of in these biodegradable compost bags. If those bags contain other yard waste or any type of waste other than or in addition to grass clippings, they will not be collected.
Please note that YOU MUST CALL 490-5115 to make an appointment in order to have your grass picked up.
Other types of yard debris EXCEPT grass and leaves (i.e., rakings, sticks, twigs, sticker balls, weeds with sod, and bush trimmings too small for the chipper) are picked up by appointment every Tuesday between April and October, and must be placed at the curb in open containers.
The required biodegradable compost bags for grass clippings are sold for $2.50 per bag at the office of the Borough Clerk and at the Public Works office during normal business hours. This price is intended to cover the Borough's costs in disposing of the grass.
An alternative to bagging and disposing of your grass clippings is simply to leave them on your lawn. The EPA recommends this approach, called “grasscycling.” To view an EPA document on grasscycling, click here.
